Alex Geriner of New Orleans-based Doorman Designs is behind the team of artisans that designed and fabricated our beautiful 13-foot long cypress and iron dining table. The table's top is made from cypress that was sourced from GoodWood Nola's Guirard Collection of cypress wood that was originally pulled out of the Atchafalaya Basin by local preservationist and photographer/writer Greg Guirard (1937-2017). Alex was born and raised in South Louisiana and his custom built furniture focuses on using reclaimed woods and architectural salvage, and as his website states:
The materials we use are sourced from around the Gulf South with an emphasis on sustainability and an understanding of our environment. Much of our eco friendly furniture is built with reclaimed wood from historic New Orleans homes destroyed or damaged by Katrina. Growing up on the Gulf Coast, I know how much history is to be found in New Orleans’ architectural details. After Katrina, my heart broke seeing the city’s soul, flooded and ruined, and being torn down. I believe that each door, each window frame, and each piece of wood is a piece of the South that should never be lost, but saved. I like to think that I’m keeping their stories alive through my designs and furniture.
